You all know I don’t send out messages often, so I apologize for posting so quickly after my last email. I’ve found out that I made it into the top 10 for the Plaza Prize SFF first chapter competition. You can see “Tiger and Thistle” on the list here.
I’ll find out next week if I make it into the final 3. This is tremendous news. That professionals in the industry reviewed and selected my work for the short list tells me that earning an MA in Creative Writing has paid off. It would, of course, be fabulous to hit the top 3, and that could open doors for me landing an agent! But I hope I can feel fulfilled enough just to reach this far.
I have revealed little information about Tiger and Thistle so far, since it is still a work in progress (about 2/3 completed now). But I can at least give you a hit regarding the title choice. “Tiger” is the national animal of South Korea. “Thistle” is the national flower of Scotland.
Did you know that Scotland’s national animal is the unicorn? How cool/random is that? I love that my country’s national animal is mythical (or is it…? 🤫🤪)
That’s all for now.
Take care and stay gold,
Rachel
